The Central Government spends large amounts of funds on irrigation schemes as also states like Maharashtra spends significant amount of funds on irrigation and farmer support schemes. However, research has shown that in the past 10 years, in a state like Maharashtra, all state Government plans for irrigation have been shabbily implemented or not implemented at all. This has caused worsening of drought conditions and led to farmer suicides. Lack of water and inadequate irrigation is a reality all across India. Empower India aims to align with the Government and various other agencies already working in this field to ensure a Water Positive Maharashtra and India.
